About the Role:

You'll be working on things like:

  • In a fast-paced breaking news environment, producing live event coverage across a variety of platforms (online, broadcast, YouTube, and Global's 24/7 OTT streaming service).
  • Create compelling video to support breaking news coverage of major international, national, and local stories.
  • Work with Global News Resources desk to coordinate live coverage and content delivery for Global News broadcast and digital properties.
  • Work directly with members of the National News Desk (NND) and National Online Team to coordinate coverage in breaking news situations and ensure smooth delivery of video content for all Global News platforms.
  • Manage daily maintenance and oversee curation of video content on and the Global TV app
  • Provide editorial oversight for digital video coverage when needed on issues such as graphic content, language and style, Fair Dealing, and factchecking.
  • Write scripts, cut video clips, and produce content for Global News broadcast properties as well as our 24/7 OTT news channel.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on a consistent basis as part of regular shift responsibilities.
If you have the want to hear from you

  • Postsecondary education in a broadcast related field
  • Journalism degree is an asset; news writing or production experience is required
  • 24 years' experience with nonlinear editing tools: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, Sony Vegas, Grass Valley etc.
  • Experience live streaming on a variety of digital platforms: Facebook, YouTube, Periscope etc.
  • Must be able to adapt in a breaking news situation; focus on prioritization of content delivery in a timesensitive environment.
  • The ability to create and oversee production of a wide range of news content for a multifaceted news operation.
  • Ability to write in a breaking news style for multiple platforms in a clear and concise manner.
  • Working knowledge of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats.
  • A passion for breaking news and broad knowledge of current events at a national and international level.
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices an asset.
  • Experience writing for TV an asset
  • Previous experience with online Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress an asset.
  • A team player that can work both independently and within a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of Global News broadcast, online, or YouTube properties an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills a must.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on a consistent basis is a must.
  • Creative mind with the ability to think outside the box and problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a highpressure situation
  • Selfmotivated individual that can be counted on to make decisions
