A_n Employment Development Specialist,_ EmploymentWorks Project. EmploymentWorks is an established pre-employment program to support and advance adults toward sustained employment.

EmploymentWorks offers training for neurodiverse adults (participants) who want to practice and develop the essential skills necessary to get and keep a job.

The EmpoymentWorks Employment Development Specialist is responsible for providing employment services specifically designed for neurodiverse participants for the EmploymentWorks program.

Responsibilities include providing employment preparedness training and support through in class instruction, job sampling and hands-on work experience to 3 groups of program participants annually.


  • This is a 3yr project term with a possibility of permanent employment._

Your Role

  • Prepare, plan, and implement the EW program with the goal of supporting participants to enhance their employability skills and improve their labour market participation with the goal of gainful employment.
  • Assess each participant's employment readiness and identify employment skills and supports that will assist the individual in their goal to secure gainful employment.
  • Provide classroom instruction to program participants following a prescribed curriculum.
  • Building community capacity by soliciting employers willing to host 'Job Sampling' placements and/or Community based work assessments (CBWA).
  • Provide support services to participants and employers on and/or off worksites.
  • Complies with privacy and confidentiality as outlined in agency, provincial and federal policies and/or guidelines regarding storage of participant information.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the Employment Facilitator II, both in the classroom and at worksites, as required.
  • Maintains a file management system for the purpose of tracking each participant's progress towards achieving their program goals.
  • Responsible for statistical and other administrative funding requirements and ensures that they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains uptodate labour market information that includes a list of employer contacts.
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Program meetings.
  • Participates in regular supervision/consultation with the Program Manager and/or Employment Services Coordinator, to review new referrals, discuss any programming issues, and provide updates on participants' progress.
  • Assists in the recruitment of new referrals to the program.
  • Other duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the position.

What You Know

  • Undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, social sciences, education, or related discipline.
years of work experience in delivering employment services.

  • Experience working with neurodiverse adults (specifically ASD).
  • Good understanding of the principles of adult learning.
  • Experience delivering workshops, training modules, etc.
  • Experience developing resumes and knowledge of job search techniques and strategies.
  • Experience working with virtual platforms (Teams/Zoom).
  • Understanding and awareness of job accommodations.
  • Knowledge of the current labour market trends and implications for employment opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, is required.
