Detailed Overview:

In collaboration with the interprofessional care team, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides intake assessment, crisis intervention, and direct patient care to Psychiatric patients.

Screens and assesses patients, develops care plans, and collaborates with different departments and community providers.

Performs psychosocial assessments, develops care plans, and provides counseling to patients and families based on approved treatment plans.

Evaluates and provides direct psychiatric nursing care, identifies care priorities, and carries out prescribed treatments and procedures.

Documents assessments, care plans, and outcomes according to practice standards and procedures.

Communicates with various departments and professionals, facilitates patient flow, and supports discharge planning and aftercare transition.

Acts as a patient advocate, provides guidance to staff, and ensures safe patient management and adherence to policies.

Participates in quality improvement activities, provides input on operational requirements, and contributes to staff orientation and education.

Requirements:

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.

One year of recent related experience in a mental health setting or equivalent combination of education and training.

Skills in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, counselling, and group facilitation.

Knowledge of mental health legislation, communication skills, promotion of person-centered care, and collaboration within the care team.

Ability to support nursing decisions with evidence-based practice, operate related equipment, and use relevant computer applications.
