Disability Management Specialist


The Disability Management Specialist is responsible for proactively managing assigned disability claims by evaluating case related information and job duties, disability administration and interaction with Team Members, Health Care Professionals and Insurance Services Providers.

The Specialist is involved in the maintenance and development of practices and procedures for claims and disability management services and he/she also assist in return to work process; overseeing modified work programs, monitoring claims for areas of objection and then formulating objections/appeals.

Reporting to Talent & Development Leader, as part of the Health and Safety initiative, your main responsibility is to assist with all disability cases to ensure safe practices and return to work of Team Members.

Responsibilities

  • Managing injury claims, minimizing timeloss and claim costs through early intervention and proactive coordination of services.
  • Coordinating LTD & STD case management activities including developing, implementing and monitoring return to work and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Monitors return to work plans (WSIB & Non-WSIB) and provides regular updates to all stakeholders.
  • Point of contact for oversight and guidance on occupational illness or injuries.
  • Investigate and recommend initiatives or best practices that relate to improvement in ergonomics, human factors in safety, and team member wellness.
  • Compile monthly/quarterly reporting of occupational absences to conduct performance evaluation and trend analysis.
  • Ensure all Wonderbrands incident reports, forms, and Return to Work documentation are completed and filled out correctly. Manage all forms as necessary.
  • Advise Director of H&S and Talent & Development Leader of any important matters relating to claims management/ergonomics.
  • Assist with other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Three to five years workers' compensation claims and return to work program experience.
  • Medical, nursing and/or legal experience for case management reviews.
  • Disability Management, Claim Management, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSIB Regulations practical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision.
  • Proven ability to effectively influence all levels from Senior Leaders to frontline team members.
  • Superior organizational skills to plan, monitor and adjust to dynamic operating issues and a rapidly changing environment.
  • Solution oriented and known to be a decision maker.
  • Demonstrate care and compassion while building relationships and developing effective recovery and returntowork plans.
  • Access to a vehicle to travel in the GTA.
