A division of Cornwall Economic Development, Cornwall Tourism serves to market Cornwall as a premier visitor destination. The office's main functions include destination marketing, visitor services, support for festivals and events, and tourism investment attraction.


Reporting to the Tourism Officer, the Tourism Development Officer will play a key role in enhancing and maintaining the economic wellbeing of the tourism sector in the City of Cornwall.

The Tourism Development Officer will help to carry out Cornwall Tourism's mandate while also providing administrative support to the Tourism Development Corporation of Cornwall (TDCC) as per the existing service agreement with the City of Cornwall.

The Tourism Development Officer will also assist with various special projects and initiatives with the Economic Development department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and implement various initiatives and programs that promote the City of Cornwall as a premier destination for all types of tourismrelated activities.
  • Initiate and develop new and existing tourism products related to the City of Cornwall and its tourism assets.
  • Foster strong relationships within the City of Cornwall with key tourism partners/businesses to encourage and implement marketing, promotion and visitor information services. This includes working with other City Departments, neighbouring municipalities and Tourism offices, community partners, tourism associations, regional tourism groups, and local and senior levels of government.
  • Coordinate and assist with visitor information services for the City of Cornwall. This includes interacting with visitors and potential visitors to Cornwall in person, online and by phone as well as providing guidance to visitors on memorable events, attractions, and experiences to explore while visiting the City and region.
  • Assist with efforts to market Cornwall as a desirable visitor destination by using writing, digital and photography skills to promote the community through various mediums (Cornwall Tourism website, social media, print, TV, et al).
  • Assist with the development of key information resources, such as the Visitor Guide, and ensure these resources are available at information racks at local attractions, accommodations and public places with City of Cornwall, as well as at other locations.
  • Represent Cornwall Tourism and the City of Cornwall at various trade shows, conferences, business events, festivals and public events.
  • In concert with the Tourism Officer, develop, manage and oversee the annual tourism budget and seasonal visitor information centre.
  • Provide assistance and support to local festivals and events, conferences and major sporting events on an asneeded basis.
  • Support the Economic Development team by undertaking special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree in business, marketing or related field.
  • Strong verbal communication skills in both English and French
  • Strong writing and photography skills along with experience in social media marketing
  • Possess and maintain a Class G driver's license
  • Experience with finances and budgeting, administrative tasks, meeting coordination and minute taking
  • Proven analytical skills, organizational skills, coupled with a strong customer service focus, the inclination to be action oriented, focused on continuous improvement.
  • Bilingualism in both French and English will be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

This position involves occasional work on weekends and evenings as well as some physical requirements (such as lifting boxes) and work in outdoor elements.
