Why is this role important?

** This posting may be used to fill multiple Program Lead positions both permanent and contract across different functions within the HWI branch.

The Program Lead is responsible for identifying and leading activities to support knowledge translation, product development, and/or operational needs of the Health Workforce Information (HWI) Branch. This includes participating in, and leading, cross-functional collaborations connecting health workforce information to other CIHI data and analyses.

What you'll do

1. Provides leadership and guidance to staff and matrix teams. Supervises, coaches, coordinates and monitors work, workload and performance of staff to ensure that quality is maintained and that learning opportunities are provided. Conducts annual performance management reviews.

2. Leads and participates in the development of departmental plans, including resource planning, overall project scheduling, and reporting. Provides regular progress reports.

3. Assists with the department's strategic and operational planning, as well as the development of the budget.

4. Develops and maintains detailed knowledge of the Health Workforce data, products and services. Participates in the development of reporting requirements.

5. Establishes and maintains relevant contacts with internal and external stakeholders to support their understanding and use of health workforce data as required.

6. Leads and coordinates responses to data requests for health workforce data and information as required.

7. Facilitates collaboration with other CIHI teams by initiating and/or participating in meetings to support corporate initiatives aligned with CIHI's strategic plan and corporate analytical plan.

8. Compiles and synthesizes information from a variety of sources to develop products for a diverse audience (i.e. web content, briefing notes, workshops, reports, etc.).

9. Contributes to the promotion of CIHI products and services through participation on external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences and other activities, as required.

What you'll bring to the table


• Undergraduate degree in health sciences, social sciences, health information, health policy, administration or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of experience/education.

• 3-5 five years' experience working with health information

• 1-3 years of supervisory experience with a strong record of successful team engagement.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills.

• Experience with stakeholder engagement, client support and communications planning and implementation in the health sector is an asset.

• Knowledge of health human resources issues and the Canadian health care system, as well as a sound knowledge of health information and its uses for policy development, planning, management and evaluation purposes.

• Knowledge of other CIHI data holdings and external data sources.

• Experience in managing multiple complex projects. Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated attention to detail.

• Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a matrix team.

• Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite of products, including MS Project.

• Ability to meet travel requirements.

• Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
