Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, Community Development, the Lead, Social Impact supports the establishment, management and advancement of key relationships and programs of Teck's Community Investment Program.

Leadership of the program includes activations, branding opportunities and implementation, as well as oversight and governance of the enterprise-wide program.


The Lead, Social Impact is a member of the Social Performance Team and collaborates with various other Teck departments including Government Relations, Environment, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Marketing, Human Resources, and all site and Business Unit community-facing roles.

Based in Vancouver, this role requires frequent travel to sites, communities and conferences.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support the project development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of Community Investment programs
  • Lead and improve strategic partnerships associated with program delivery including community investment, global partnerships, postsecondary partnerships, and others as required
  • Build and use strategic relationships with education institutions, global and local NGO's and corporations to enhance Teck's reputation and position the company as a leader in local and global initiatives that raise the profile of metals and minerals in society
  • Develop and carry out activations and events to profile community investment partnerships including community events, employee engagements, and brand representation
  • Ensure ongoing accountability for the annual Community Investment budget, including review of project proposals, annual action plans, advancement of budget approvals and providing ongoing oversight of invested funds in programs
  • Provides strategic support to executives on program development, government and community engagement, and event participation
  • Develop external and internal communications relating to community investment programs, crafting external submissions, presentations, speaking notes, briefing notes and web content, for use by employees, up to and including senior management, and Teck's program partners
  • Contribute to the development of corporate strategies and communications activities to support social risk management and benefits maximization across Teck's operations, projects and exploration sites
  • Supply relevant program content to Teck's communications strategies, annual sustainability reporting, and other corporate objectives as required
  • Evaluate, advance and lead prospective corporateled partnerships, projects or investment opportunities that align with Teck's sustainability or marketing goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 710 years of relevant work experience with a focus on sustainability, community investment, communications and multistakeholder partnership management
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and develop strategic partnerships to advance corporate objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong internal and external relationships
  • Comfortable engaging with senior leaders and representing the company to government officials and global or governmental organizations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community investment standards with an ability to implement these on the company's behalf
  • Previous budgeting, resource management and planning experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience implementing events, activations and campaigns including internal employee engagement and external community partnerships
  • Strong digital literacy with MS Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decisionmaking skills
  • Familiarity working with the extractives sector
  • Ability for travel required. Driver's License an asset
  • Due to the external nature of the role, some evening and weekend work required
  • Oral proficiency in Spanish is an asset
