Job Summary

The Community Youth Worker(s) in Youth Programs report(s) to the Youth Programs Supervisor(s) and works closely with the members youth programs team in community-based programming and community participants in PQ's catchment area.

The Community Youth Worker is responsible for planning and facilitating programming for youth aged 10-18 years with the goal of developing leadership skills, encouraging volunteerism and civic engagement.

This position requires excellent facilitation skills, the ability to respond the needs of diverse populations and a strong ability to deliver programming in person within a variety of community locations (schools, community houses, recreation centers, family shelter, etc).

A priority focus for this role is working with economically diverse youth from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Programming:

  • Involve participants in identifying their needs and interests.
  • Create a supportive environment for young people, 10 to 18 years, from diverse backgrounds.
  • Plan and lead program activities, with a specific focus on culture and heritage to develop selfconfidence, social and life skills of participants.
  • Develop, and implement/facilitate workshops and programming which meet the identified needs of the participants.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of special projects such as youth conferences and events.
  • Promote all PQ youth programs, events and special projects outreach, flyers, social media etc.
  • Provide information and access to community resources for participants.
  • Provide in person programming and potentially pivot to a hybrid model if necessary
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of program participants
  • Assist with activities to identify youths' needs and interests
  • Contribute to building and maintaining relevant relationships and partnerships with collaborating organizations and individuals
Administration

  • Participate as an active team member in project staff meetings, partner and agency meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in regular one on one meetings with the supervisor.
  • Liaises with pertinent community partners and community members.
  • Maintains records for petty cash, program participation forms, crisis interventions/referrals, and program evaluation.
  • Supports the writing of interim as well as final reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Contributing to the Centre's work by participating in meetings and committees.
  • Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
  • Contributing to the Centre's practices of hiring, orienting and training of staff.
  • Contributing to the Centre's efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
  • Participating in the Centre's efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
  • Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in health or social services, youth and childcare worker, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience creating a safe and inclusive environment, including virtual environments.
  • Training and experience inprogram planning, group facilitation and leadership development.
  • Training/experience in group facilitation including virtual programming on a variety of platforms including ZOOM, Google Meets.
