Job Summary

The Youth Worker - Social Servicesreport(s) to the Youth Programs Supervisor and works closely with the members of the youth programs team in community-based programming and community participants in PQ's catchment area. The Youth Worker - Social Servicesis responsible for planning and facilitating programming for youth aged 8-18 years with the goal of developingleadership skills, encouraging community connections and recreation. This position requires excellent in person facilitation skills anda strong ability to deliver programming in person.

Responsibilities

Programming

Involve participants in identifying their needs and interests. Create a supportive environment for young people, 8 to 18 years, from diverse backgrounds. Plan and lead program activities which develop self-confidence, social and life skills of participants. Participate in the development and implementation of a summer programming schedule which includes accessing local opportunities for the participants. Provide information and access to community resources for participants. Provide in person programming daily on-site at a City of Ottawa Emergency Family Shelter

Administration

Participate as an active team member in staff meetings, partner and agency meetings as appropriate. Participate in regular supervision meetings. Liaises with pertinent community partners and community members. Maintains records for petty cash, program participation forms, crisis interventions/referrals, and program evaluation. Other duties as assigned.

Maintaining competence, and where applicable, a professional license to practice. Promoting awareness of and participation in Centre activities. Contributing to the Centre's work by participating in meetings and committees. Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre. Participating in the Centre's efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development. Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

Completion of 1 year in degree or diploma in health or social services, youth and childcare worker, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience creating a safe and inclusive environment Experience working with high-riskyouth Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of community resources. Fluency in English essential, fluency in Somali or Arabic or French a strong asset, other languages also desirable. Valid First Aid and CPR (level C) required.
