Job Summary


Under the direction of the Manager of the Reception House, the Children's Program Worker will closely collaborate with the Program Facilitator.

The primary responsibility is to aid in planning, implementing, and facilitating a program at the Reception House. This program aims to familiarize newcomer children (ages 5-17), with the Canadian School System. Additionally, it includes various educational, enjoyable, and innovative activities.

The Worker will ensure children's safety, respect parents and children, and keep the equipment & facilities clean, safe, and in good condition.

The Worker will support the work with students and volunteers to carry out all program activities and will perform other duties as required by the organization and the program manager.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of culturally appropriate programs and activities.
  • Provide and maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
  • Help to prepare and organize weekly and monthly schedules of "indoor, and outdoor activities, including field trips.
  • Implement behavior management strategies according to the age of the child.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children.
  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child's progress.
  • Facilitate interactive parent and child literacy activities.
  • Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care.
  • Maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Maintain strong, cooperative, and effective working collaboration with the Sage Youth Program (external Partner).
  • Develop and maintain accurate service records and program documentation including children's progress using existing data systems.
  • Help with monthly activity reports and statistical information and/or as required.
  • Participate in meetings and activities that promote understanding of newcomers.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers, to ensure efficient and effective CCI events and activities management.
  • Collaborate with other departments in training employees and volunteers.
  • Other duties assigned by the manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
(Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills)

  • Postsecondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in working with youth and children or a similar role.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent assessment skills and sound judgment in decisionmaking.
  • Knowledge of barriers facing marginalized, racialized, newcomer, and refugee populations.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating workshops.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle are required.

Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency in French is highly desired.

  • Member in good standing with a related professional association or college is an asset.
  • Training in mental health first aid, and CPR/first aid are assets.
