Purpose:


Under the direction of the Manager Student Engagement and Retention, the Student Life Coordinator role promotes and facilitates an inclusive culture of student leadership, engagement, and connection through student organizations, student leadership development and training, and transition programs at the Lassonde School of Engineering ('School').

In conjunction with the Manager, the staff member intentionally implements student retention interventions with a focus on international students and priority student populations.

The role works with Lassonde Marketing and Communications to promote student life activities through social media, the School's website, and other student related channels.

The Student Life Coordinator role participates in planning, coordinating, and/or assisting with various programs and student service operations.

The role works with various Lassonde departments and campus partners to integrate approaches to student engagement programs through all phases of the new student onboarding process, from Recruitment and Conversion, Transition, Academic Orientation, First year, Middle Years and to Upper Year.

The role works with contacts across the School to collect, analyze, and report evaluation data against learning outcomes, thus, ensuring the programming related to student transition, success and engagement is evidence based, theoretically informed, measurable, and marketable, contributing to retention efforts across the school.

As well, the role coordinates the recruitment, selection, and training processes for work-study students and volunteers assigned to various student leadership and development programs.

The role supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Lassonde School of Engineering and York University, and contributes to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement that embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.


Education:


Completion of a relevant College Diploma or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks.

This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Additional training in student development and leadership would be an asset.

Experience:

One (1) year recent related work experience in a post-secondary environment. Experience must include working in student engagement, student leadership or student success, and event planning. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate training and workshops for students. Experience in writing simple reports and information brochure targeted to a student audience. Demonstrated ability to coordinate competing processes and function independently to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and prepare written reports for various audiences a variety of formats. Experience in maintaining a database and manipulating data, data entry, retrieving data from financial and student record systems.

Knowledgeable in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level, basic Access skills, including demonstrated knowledge of functions/formulae, creating queries and reports, mail merge.

Familiarity with University Student Information is required. Previous student leadership experience would be an asset.

Additional Knowledge Required:
Familiarity with online/web-based content management systems.
Familiarity with event management software and using social media sites such as blogs, WordPress, Twitter, and Facebook.

Work independently and as a team member in a high-volume environment with competing priorities.
Flexibility in working hours is required to accommodate events on evening and weekends.
