Starting wage - $34.00 Depending on experience

Position Overview

General:

  • The Camp Manager reports to the Special Projects Administrator or their designate.
  • Administer the daytoday operations of 2 remote logging camp sites.
  • Report weekly on activities/task completed, planned activities for the following week and to complete and hand in associated paperwork.
  • Travel to and stays required at Tahtsa Group's 2 remote camp locations. Primary location is Tahtsa Camp's "Raspberry
  • North Babine" location, with regular stays at "The Reach Camp".
  • The Manager works in collaboration with the Maintenance team, Administration Team, and Logging Supervisor(s), to achieve and maintain a safe environment that is free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination of any kind.
  • Oversee onsite contractors to fulfil their contractual obligations.

  • Able to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry issues.
  • Physically able to lift and maneuver 50lbs regularly.

  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Detailed documentation.
  • Safety oriented.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and maintain minor mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and structural issues.
  • Address and report on any personnel issues immediately.
  • Detailed documentation of items including but not limited to purchases, water sample collection, inspections, personnel issues, scheduling, maintenance logs, etc.
  • Contractor oversite (camp caterers, trades people, others as required)
  • Review of employee timesheets.
  • Be comfortable in assessing abilities and knowing when to get a tradesman for repairs.
  • Perform and/or support monthly Safety Inspections and Safety Meetings with the Maintenance and Administrative teams. Hand in minutes to the Occupational Health and Safety team and post a copy in the common area.
  • Varmint and pest control.
  • Assist in training of all staff in remote camp locations, providing coaching, mentoring and support to employees and contractors.

Key Working Relationships:

This position has key working relationships with:

1. Special Projects Administrator

2. The Maintenance Team

3.The balance of the Management Team (VP Operations, Corporate Controller, etc.)

4. All supervisors

5. The balance of the Administrative Team

6. Outside vendors and relevant external agencies

Authority:

1. The Camp Manager supervises up to 3 camp maintenance workers.

2. The Camp Manager has the authority to shut down activities deemed to put an employee, or any other person, at risk.

3. Removal of personnel/contractors from camp to maintain the safety and integrity of the environment.

Required Qualifications:

1. Water Filtration System certification (course started within 30 days of hire, completed within 90, sponsored by employer).

2. Management and supervision experience

3. Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted class 5 license.

4. Must have own transportation.

5. OFA 1 + Transportation Endorsement (Employer will provide training)

6. Physically able to lift and maneuver 50lbs regularly.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in remote camps.

2. Experience working with diesel generators.

3. OFA level 3

Working Conditions:

  • Variable shifts as determined by seasonal needs (sufficient notice provided).
  • Overtime may be required (compensated).
  • Winter travel to and from camp on Forest Service Roads.
  • Rural, remote locations with (potentially) limited access.
