EPCOR's purpose statement is "Communities Count on us. We count on each other." The Manager of Communications role is at the heart of that purpose.


We are looking for an experienced individual to join the Public and Government Affairs team as Manager, Communications to support the Energy Services business unit.

The Manager is responsible for enhancing and protecting EPCOR's reputation in the community and building pride of purpose within team EPCOR.

You will be a leader within a team of communication and consultation professionals.

You will support the Energy Services business unit and primary responsibilities include internal communications, issues management, customer facing communications, emergency / crisis communications, public and media relations planning that align to achieve the business unit's annual strategic goals.

This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program

What you'd be responsible for

  • Recruiting, developing and leading a strong and diverse team including setting appropriate goals and expectations with corresponding performance metrics for direct reports.
  • Leading internal communications initiatives that align with EPCOR's brand, advance business unit priorities and address operational needs.


Working hands-on in developing, integrating and evolving our employer brand in a way that defines EPCOR's culture and reflects our values while supporting the Energy Services business unit with complementary and standalone strategies that connects the team's work to our customers, community and each other.

Internally, you are the ultimate brand ambassador.


Providing strategic recommendations to a myriad of internal clients that result in relevant, engaging and timely messages for diverse audiences.

Executing external communications plans using many platforms and tactics, and measuring and reporting on those results.


Managing issues, providing media responses and acting as a spokesperson for business unit responsibilities and in emergency response situations as necessary.

Participating in and acting as an on-call, after-hours media spokesperson on a rotating weekly basis.


Working to enhance the customer experience by providing strategic guidance, advice and communications materials in a timely manner to external-facing front-line employees.

Overseeing and playing a hands-on role in the execution of day-to-day operational communications.

Developing and implementing communications, media and public engagement strategies that are customer-centric with measurable results.

Continually defining ways to increase stakeholder satisfaction and to deepen working relationships internally and externally.

Identifying and analyzing issues impacting Energy Services' business and establishing initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure objectives are achieved.

Producing high-quality work that reflects strong attention to detail.

Leading by example with the behaviors, attitudes, and mindset consistent with a positive organizational culture.
What's required to be successful

Bachelor's degree with preference to an education in Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing from a recognized post-secondary institution. A general business or liberal arts education, or a diploma-level education, combined with relevant work experience in an asset.

5+ years' experience in the public relations field with a career that reflects external and internal communications expertise.


Experience managing communications and issues in an operational environment within a complex organization, along with proven success leading a cross-functional team and influencing across organizational boundaries.

Experience creating a positive work culture with a focus on Health & Safety, Employee Engagement, and Employer Brand building.

Able to provide expertise on communications / media and public relations / marketing fundamentals to programs and initiatives.

Consistently applies strategic and critical thinking in all aspects of work.

Effective team leader and builder, who engages and motivates s
