Learning Communities and Academic AdvisorPrimary Purpose: Support the implementation, delivery, and assessment of programs and strategies to enhance student success within the College of Education through the College Learning Communities initiative and academic advising.Nature of Work:
  • Reports to the Director, Undergraduate Programs in the College of Education.
  • Works in a fast-paced, student-centered team environment.
  • Plays a primary support role for the growth and delivery of the Learning Communities initiative.
  • Responsible for providing academic advising to diverse prospective and current teacher candidates.
  • Supports the development and design of programming related to College Learning Communities.
  • Creates and supports collaboration and team problem-solving within the Programs Office team.
  • Participates in student events and ensures students receive consistent program support.
The individual in this position builds professional relationships with administrators, faculty, students, and external stakeholders. The role involves knowledge of undergraduate teacher education opportunities provided by the College, such as the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP).Typical Duties or Accountabilities
  • Supports the growth and development of College Learning Communities.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and mentorship of education peer mentors.
  • Assists students in selecting and registering in Learning Communities.
  • Promotes and communicates the Learning Community program.
  • Undertakes necessary training for remote learning community options.
  • Collaborates with the Learning Communities Coordinator for evaluation and revisions.
  • Recruits involvement in Learning Communities from various partners.
  • Participates in assessing the outcomes of the Learning Communities project.
  • Provides academic and holistic advising to students.
  • Supports student persistence and success in the university learning environment.
  • Practices culturally competent advising.
  • Maintains ongoing contact with students and upholds confidentiality practices.
  • Partners with stakeholders to implement best practices in student services.
  • Liaises with stakeholders to provide integrated student services.
  • Ensures accurate record-keeping.
  • Promotes a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment.
Education: Undergraduate university degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.Experience: Minimum of three years working in post-secondary institutions. Familiarity with the Student Information System (SiRIUS) is an asset.Skills:
  • Familiarity with various software and platforms.
  • Empathy and excellent service provision to students.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess student needs accurately.
  • Effective interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Record of initiative and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in designing and delivering presentations.
  • Clear and precise communication of information.
