Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a school of students, faculty, thinkers and makers unlike any other.

Established in 1925, we are the only specialized, accredited, public, post-secondary university in British Columbia solely devoted to education and research in the creative sector and its associated knowledge economy.

As the Project Manager, Partnerships + Creative Entrepreneurship, you will be responsible for providing oversight of Shumka Centre activities, delivery of related and special projects and initiatives, and strategic development.

The Project Manager works with the AVP Research, Deans, management, staff, and students to foster high impact, financially sound and replicable results across all related projects.

The Project Manager is responsible for developing strategic analyses and business cases to support sustaining and growing their portfolio.

Some Typical Duties Include:

  • At the direction of the AVP, Research and Manager, Research Administration + Operations, develops workplans and strategic roadmaps for the effective and successful development and delivery of all programs, initiatives, and projects associated with the portfolio.
  • Leads, stewards, and delivers existing programs including Design4Startups and Artist Apprenticeship Network.
  • Oversees daytoday work of associated project support staff.
  • Catalyses the development of new opportunities for faculty, researchers, and students to develop deeper connections to external partners.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Research Administration + Operations, develops proposals, business plans, and outreach initiatives to expand the reach of creative entrepreneurship and external partnerships.
  • In consultation with the AVP Research and Deans, develops feasibility studies and recommendations for external partnership development.
  • Serves as a relationship builder for external partners and the university to establish strategically and financially valuable projects.
  • Develops financial plans and secures necessary funding for sustaining and expanding programming.
  • Leads on grant writing and project and program development associated with the portfolio.
  • Prepares quarterly reports on activities, accomplishments, and program updates.
  • Under the guidance of Manager, Research Administration + Operations, ensures all relevant templates related to industry agreements, contracts, and partnerships, are appropriately accessible and up to date.
  • Builds capacity across the Research + Industry Office for effectively connecting research and student activity to creative entrepreneurship and partnership opportunities.
  • Manages the planning and delivery of special projects to advance university priorities as identified by the AVP, Research.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Undergraduate Degree: Graduate Degree preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of art and design context.
  • Minimum four years of directly related experience in a higher education setting.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience in project coordination.
  • Knowledge of office administration, and best practices in program management.
  • Demonstrated experience of effective engagement with industry and community partners.
  • Exceptional organizational and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with budget oversight, project management, and team leadership.
  • Evidenced engagement in art and designrelated projects, programs, or research in relation to creative entrepreneurship, startup culture, and industry partnerships.
  • Ability to work in a respectful, consultative, and collaborative fashion with a variety of key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capacity to connect strategic goals with complex operational realities.
  • Highly developed organizational abilities, including priority setting, balancing competing deadlines and project management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sensitivity, discretion, and complete commitment to working in the university's best interest in business dealings and partnership development.
  • Ability to promote Emily Carr University effectively to partners at all levels and to establish positive working relationships internally and externally.
