Position Summary:

The Drop-in Programs Assistant will support the Drop-in Programs Coordinator in developing a program calendar for the 2024 summer at WCWRC.

They will collaborate with staff on planning and delivering events, community celebrations and other informational or recreational activities for the community.

They will also support Centre activities for Reconciliation Month (July).

This position is funded by a Canada Summer Jobs grant, and applicants must be between 18 and 30 (inclusive).

Salary:
$18/hour

Time requirement: 30 hours per week, 10-week contract

Duties and Responsibilities:
Drop-in Support

  • Build relationships with participants
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone in the Drop-In
  • Ensure that the Drop-In space is clean, well maintained and organized
  • Be fully informed of WCWRC activities, programming and staff in order to direct inquires appropriately
  • Provide support and referrals to vulnerable participants compassionately and nonjudgmentally while maintaining strong personal boundaries
Drop-in Programs

  • Plan and facilitate events, workshops, celebrations and programs, including community events in partnership with other agencies, as identified with the team
  • Support the creation and sharing of the monthly program calendar
  • Track and report on programs and initiatives implemented, including event summaries
  • Guided by the WCWRC Reconciliation Committee, support planning and delivering programming, events and activities focusing on Reconciliation
Other Community Services Support

  • Assist with Winnipeg Harvest pickup and deliveries, as needed
  • Ensure program space is kept organized; complete regular cleaning of the space
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work within antiracist and antioppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks
  • Ability to practice participantcentred work and to work from a traumainformed approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals and show compassion and understanding
  • Strong understanding of and ability to practice harm reduction
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities, excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problemsolving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb
Preferred

  • Priority given to BIPOC youth
  • Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness, poverty and/or marginalization strongly preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License preferred but not required
  • Experience working within the nonprofit sector
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
  • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
  • Some experience organizing events, programming or community activities
