  • Continuing In the NSMS Comprehensive Model, this position case manages a variety of student designations within 6/7 multiaged and 8 classrooms as well as supporting socialemotional learning, selfregulation, and teaching to diversity in a pushin model.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • Master's Degree in Counselling or a related discipline with a focus on counselling
  • Two years of successful classroom experience at the middle level
  • Two years of successful school counselling and behaviour support experience at the middle level that includes the provision of counselling, consultation, coordination and education services that promote the intellectual, human, social and career development of students
  • Current practical experience dealing with adolescents exhibiting behavioural and/or emotional problems
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the classroom and in a schoolcounselling position

Ideally, the successful applicant will possess:

  • Ability to support classroom teachers in understanding and planning for the social, emotional and behavioural needs of students in their classes
  • A high level of comfort in a coteaching role while providing inclass case management in a comprehensive support model
  • Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom for middle schoolage students
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents and colleagues and ability in group process techniques
  • Ability and willingness to act as a resource person for teaching staff
  • Demonstrated interest and a strong commitment to the emotional and social development of adolescents
  • Demonstrated aptitude for counselling and/or professional counselling experience
  • Experience working in a proactive, comprehensive counselling model
  • Strong understanding of transitioning elementary years learners to middle and middle learners to secondary
  • Threat Assessment Level 2 training
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role a counsellor plays on a Critical Response Team
  • Familiarity with community resources and referral processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
  • Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
  • Successful experience preparing the documentation required for designation related to intensive behaviour intervention, behaviour support, learning disabilities and low incidence categories
  • Restitution Level 1 (preferably Restitution Level 2)
