As part of the Inclusive Excellence Cluster Hire Initiative, the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Computer Science. Description of Position
The successful candidate will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and, optionally, graduate courses in the area of computer science. We offer both in-person and virtual sections of many of our undergraduate courses. Teaching assignments of faculty members is a collaborative process where we aim to balance the needs of individual faculty members and the needs of students.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the research and scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and curriculum design as well as engage in other scholarly professional or creative activities that strengthen and informs their knowledge base and expertise. Service to the department, faculty, University, and community is also expected.

Candidates must have earned a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related area or an MSc with significant relevant professional experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a primary focus and interest in one or more of the following areas:

  • computer science education (preferably with a focus on inclusive curriculum, course, or instructional design, inclusive pedagogy, or digital pedagogy)
  • software science
  • information privacy and security
  • theoretical computer science
  • computer systems

Candidates who are near completion of their program will be considered. The successful candidate can show the following:

  • A commitment to inclusive teaching and learning
  • A commitment to remaining current (in computer science or computer science pedagogy) and to disseminate research or experiences related to teaching in computer science.
  • A desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Their approach to working as part of a team in an academic context.
  • How they can contribute to the department, faculty, university, and Calgary community.

Description of Work Environment
Successful applicants will become faculty members in the Department of Computer Science. The Department offers a variety of programs:

  • MSc and PhD in Computational Media Design

  • Graduate certificates and Master's in Information Security and Privacy.
