Description:

Responsibilities of the Radhe Gupta Executive Chair in Cities and Communities:

Extension/Engagement (industry outreach and partnership)

  • Interactions with and supporting industry in Canada and beyond leading towards stronger city and community building practices
  • Knowledge mobilization and realworld reporting to industry and government on actionable areas for growth and impact
  • Representing the U of A, the Alberta School of Business, and the Centre for Cities and Communities (and any future iterations of it) at relevant conferences, bringing influence and twoway feedback to meetings, and colloquia of importance to the sector
  • Supporting the Centre (and any future iterations of it) growth by seeking additional funding opportunities from government and private support
  • Provide vision and leadership in the advancement of a worldclass research program in cities and communities by attracting competitive external funding that will support a research program
  • Convening stakeholders, connecting disparate groups and assimilating forwardfacing research agendas that align with industry research needs
  • Bringing industry alignment into the research agenda by codeveloping multiyear areas of focus
  • Delivering the research outcomes, which will inform business decisions, to a variety of city and community building stakeholders
  • Promote collaborative research within ASoB, and build on strengths and utilize existing resources available at the University
  • Encourage career development of scholars at the ASoB, working on urban economics, real estate, urban design, and city management

Leadership and Program Administration

  • Collaborates with CCC staff to enhance and grow the number of experiential learning opportunities to students in Real Estate, Retailing, Marketing, Finance, Business Economics, etc.
  • Leads strategic and operational planning for the CCC
  • Supervises administrative staff and aligns staff activity to CCC's strategic objectives

Teaching (innovations in real estate and business education)

  • Helps shape business and crossdisciplinary programs and courses that draw upon disciplines in business and the University, helping to diversify the pipeline of talent of real estate professionals
  • Plays an active role in the business suite of courses at the level, including the Business capstone course
  • Teaches in the areas of cities and communities
  • A PhD in a relevant field;
  • Significant leadership experience in an area related to cities and communities;
  • A willingness to proactively develop collaborative and fruitful relations within the Alberta School of Business and across the University's units and portfolios;
  • A solid understanding of university environments;
  • An ability to shape research agendas that allow the university to drive forward new areas of collaborative and relevant research to city and community building;
  • A demonstrated strength in providing the necessary vision and leadership required to build a broad range of partnerships (internal and external to the university), including industry, community and government (municipal, provincial) that are crucial to supporting the goals of city and community building;
  • Demonstrated potential to publish toplevel research and achieve teaching excellence.
