Position Overview:

The Surgical Clinical Reviewer's chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACS NSQIP.

This is accomplished through high quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital.

The SCR works closely with the members of the Surgery program, and Improvement Office to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as identified.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Ability to complete all training modules and pass training modules and examinations of National Surgical Quality Improvement Program
  • Minimum of one year experience in one of the following settings: hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research, or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required
  • Recent experience in Data Collection, reporting and delivering presentations, serving as an education resource on ACS NSQIP for internal and external audiences
  • Ability to track down information through various sources such as medical records, surgery clinics, social security death index, direct patient contact, accounts payable, and legal counsel
  • Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support, must be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers
  • Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner
  • Familiarity and comfort with MS Office products (Word and Excel
- required)

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular inservice education in this area.
  • Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record

  • PowerPoint and Access
  • Database data entry and/or management experience
  • Basic statistical knowledge
  • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience
  • Ability to speak another language
