As a Senior Wildlife Biologist, you will provide highly valued expertise in a multi-disciplinary team of consulting professionals. This position is a permanent full-time opportunity for a Senior Wildlife Biologist in our Calgary office. Remote working locations will be considered. As a Senior Wildlife Biologist, you will provide regulatory and technical support to project managers and clients in support of various projects. In addition, you will provide mentoring to staff and participate in business development initiatives. You will have mentorship and the opportunity to set the course for your career, including future business ownership opportunities. Experience in the renewable energy sector is an asset. The successful candidate will be responsible for:


• Providing guidance, training and direction to junior and intermediate wildlife biologists and other team members to support successful completion of projects and development of the group

• Managing or sponsoring multi-disciplinary projects, including budget and schedule management, client liaison, technical leadership and coordinating project teams

• Business development, including developing and managing client relationships and proposal writing

• Directing environmental assessments, regulatory approval processes, environmental monitoring, and other technical studies

• Senior review of high-quality technical reports, including permit applications and regulatory documents and environmental impact statements

• Providing practical and effective solutions to clients

• Liaising with clients, stakeholders, Indigenous and jurisdictional governments to provide effective and responsible project advancement

• Supporting and sponsoring environmental protection and mitigation plans to facilitate regulatory approvals in concert with project teams and/or project managers
• Leading projects through a range of jurisdictional environmental review processes
• Participating proactively in EDI's health and safety program

We are looking for someone with:


• Specialized expertise in avian species including visual and aural identification

• People who help people solve environmental management challenges

• Individuals that foster a professional and productive work environment

• Critical thinkers, where feedback is given and taken respectfully

• Customer service to the client is at the forefront of delivery

• The ability to work among a team in a dynamic environment with limited supervision

• The ability to communicate complexities in straight-forward and understandable ways

• Professional report writing and senior technical review skills

• The ability to handle the demands of deadlines and shifting priorities

• The ability to conduct occasional fieldwork in remote locations and travel between offices

• The aptitude for working collaboratively and effectively with junior and senior staff of multiple disciplines, within teams on various projects of differing complexity, and with environmental sub-consultants and government agencies

• The ability to recognize and incorporate into analyses both scientific and Indigenous perspectives

Job requirements includes:


• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related discipline and 15 or more years of experience focusing on environmental assessment and planning projects

• A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Biol., P.Ag. or P.Geo.) recognized in Alberta

• Specialized expertise in wildlife biology and consulting expertise

• Strong knowledge of jurisdictional environmental assessment and decision-making processes

• Class 5 driver's license
