North Shore has immediate opportunities for an Intermediate Wildlife Biologist based out of either our Calgary, Sherwood Park, or Grande Prairie offices.

Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including Agrologists, Air Quality Specialists, Biologists, Engineers, Foresters, and Hydrogeologists and provide technical leadership and guidance on wildlife matters.

Provide leadership and mentorship to the existing wildlife team and oversee most aspects of data collection, quality assurance, and associated reporting.

Manage or co-manage wildlife projects (depending on size and complexity) and provide wildlife support on major projects by liaising with clients, preparing and submitting documents, attending client and regulatory meetings, scheduling tasks, and reviewing budgets as needed.

Develop quality scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules.
o Pre-field planning for projects including safety planning, mapping preparation and equipment preparation
o Conducting wildlife surveys with a focus on nest sweeps, breeding bird surveys, and amphibian surveys

Provide guidance, training (field and office), and direction to junior team members to ensure the completion and accuracy of project scopes of work.

Prepare, review, and edit technical proposals, regulatory applications, and reports.
Stay current on the applicable provincial and federal legislation and general trends relating to wildlife.

Assist with the preparation and development of best practices, standards, and procedures for our clients to mitigate project risks and support operations.

Support the growth of the biophysical division by developing relationships with existing and future clients as well as government and regulatory agencies.

Minimum of five (5) years of consulting experience related to biology, preferably conducting and managing wildlife studies.
Sc. degree in biology, environmental science or a related field.
Experience designing and leading wildlife programs, including species at risk, wildlife and wildlife habitat surveys.

Working knowledge of the Alberta Wildlife Act, Public Lands Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Bird Convention Act, and the Master Schedule of Standards of Conditions related to Alberta's Enhanced Approval Process (EAP).

Strong field skills and the ability to transfer field knowledge to junior staff.
Effective technical writing skills, including report and proposal preparation, and the experience to provide technical reviews and edits.
Current driver's license and have experience operating a 4×4 truck and off-highway vehicles (ATV, UTV and Argo).

Preference will be given to candidates with experience leading pre-construction nest sweeps, breeding bird surveys, amphibian surveys, reptile surveys, and/or fisheries assessments.
