Reporting to the Director, Student Wellness Centre (SWC), the Project Lead is responsible for implementation, execution, and evaluation of the Peer Led Mental Health program (a program funded by the McCall MacBain Foundation).

As a pilot at OCAD University (OCAD U), this project will empower students to co-create wellness programming that enhances mental health and builds community resilience among emerging artists and designers.

Rooted in co-design and peer-to-peer support, the outcomes of this program will lay the foundation for scaling and strengthening community resilience at OCAD University.

The program aligns with OCAD U's long term strategic plan to centre the student journey by increasing wellness support options.

The Project Lead will be responsible for implementing and supporting the following:

  • Peer designed, developed, and led workshops and activities that support social connection and community building through an art and design lens, nature engagement, dropin spaces and more
  • Building a network of trained and supported peers who can provide informal oneonone and group support that connect students experiencing social isolation to appropriate supports and activities on campus
  • The creation of a studentled mental health mobile response team that will provide peerbased support for students experiencing nonurgent concerns
  • Opportunities for student involvement with updating and disseminating the Supporting Students in Distress protocol and facilitating training across the institution

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Project Management_
  • In collaboration with the Director of SWC, create of project work plan and evaluation framework, including long term scalability and sustainability
  • Strike and cofacilitate an advisory group, inclusive and reflective of the dynamic OCADU community, rooted in principles of codesign
  • Support recruitment of OCAD U students for peer positions for the project
  • Provide support, in relation to urgent and/or unexpected situations, using strong judgement, conflict resolution and engagement skills
  • Develop policies, procedures, and program practices to ensure the smooth daily operation of the project, fostering a team approach, reflective of objectives and funding agreements
  • Oversee administrative coordination for program scheduling and facilitation
  • Collect data for purposes of ongoing program development and improvements, as well as evaluation relative to project objectives and outcomes, preparing funding reports as required
  • Supervise the acquisition of all programmatic supplies with attention to budgetary constraints
  • Cultivate and build strong working relationships with other stakeholders, such as the Student Union, Student Affairs units/staff, and student groups/associations
  • Work in collaboration with the Director, SWC, to report back to the OCAD U community, including students, senior leadership, as well as the Foundation, regarding project milestones, learnings and outcomes
  • Student Centred Programming_
  • Build a comprehensive peer training program, inclusive of deescalation, harm reduction, mental health, confidentiality, conflict resolution, boundaries, communication etc.
  • In collaboration with the Peer Support Facilitator, support peer leads to design and develop mindful programming to facilitate for the larger student community, as well as onetoone supports
  • Support planning and implementation of outreach, awareness and health promotion in relation to the program and the Student Wellness Centre services
  • Uphold principles of antioppression, with acknowledgement and understanding of intersectionality and the impact of colonization on marginalized communities, including IBPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ students, students who identify as neurodiverse and/or students with disabilities
  • Respond to unexpected urgent situations, providing direct support as appropriate, in consultation with Director, SWC and Dean of Students
  • Encourage and develop processes to gather direct student feedback, individually and collectively, to inform ongoing program development and service improvements
