Position Summary


Working under the direction of research manager, the clinical research assistant will be responsible for Screening & enrolling patients for research participation across the program portfolio.

Navigating UHN COVID-19 safety protocols (IPAC) for breath-based biomarker testing to ensure compliance with guidelines are met and risk is mitigated, referral screening, patient interaction/consenting, patient tracking, study tests/visit coordination, venipuncture for research blood specimen collection (or desire to complete an UHN accredited venipuncture course), various sample collection, handling and shipping, correlative science management, and conducting tests using novel devices.


Duties

  • Responsible for Database management, data collection, entry, verification, reporting and promoting the quality and integrity of data
  • Enters medical data from health records or other sources, as per approved study protocol and authorized access into electronic data capture (EDC) systems for example Redcap, Medidata, etc.
  • Identifies and logs protocol and SOP deviations
  • Identifying, recruiting and obtaining consent from patients
  • Administering surveys, tracking data and patient information
  • Conducting tests using novel devices that the research assistant will be trained to perform
  • Prepares submissions (amendments, reportable events, annual renewals, study closures) to Research Ethics Board (REB)
  • Executes studyrelated administrative tasks, such as collection and maintenance of regulatory documents, ethics submissions, protocols, staff training and delegation logs in paper and electronic formats
  • Working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical outpatient and/or inpatient environment.
  • Implementing and coordinating all aspects of data collection and source documentation, as per UHN policy and ICH/GCP guidelines
  • May involve conducting telephone and/or clinical recruitment interviews
  • Coordinating patient visits schedule as per study protocol;
  • Executing all aspects of study protocol involving patients visits

Qualifications

  • Community college diploma in a healthrelated discipline, or equivalent (minimum)
  • A minimum of six months to one year of researchrelated experience, preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be keen to learn, with strong organization skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work well under under pressure.
  • Previous experience with clinical research, study recruitment, data collection, or qualitative interviews with patients in a medical setting, individuals facing lifethreatening illness or advanced disease, or family caregivers of medically ill individuals, would be a definite asset.
  • Computer proficiency, required (e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Excel).
  • Qualitative interviewing, qualitative data analysis skills, and previous experience using qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo), would be an asset.
  • Statistical skills and previous experience using statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS, R), would be an asset
