Position Summary

The Mood Disorders Psychopharmacology Unit (MDPU) is dedicated to transforming the way that mood and anxiety disorders are treated, understood and characterized. Part of our innovative research includes using ketamine and psilocybin for mood and anxiety disorders that are otherwise difficult to treat with conventional interventions. We are seeking an energetic and experienced individual to perform clinical research activities in a dynamic and collegial environment as a Clinical Research Study Assistant where they will assist with multiple research studies.

Duties

  • Collaborates with PI and multidisciplinary health care team in recruitment of study participants for the ketamine and psilocybin studies at the MDPU (e.g., identifies and screens potential subjects; obtains informed consent; conducts pre-testing and administers questionnaires or other data collection tools)
  • Helps write clinical trial protocols and submit protocols to ethics board and Health Canada.
  • Assists in the planning, review, implementation and coordination of data collection and source documentation, as per UHN policy and ICH/GCP guidelines
  • Identifies problems using assessment skills and reports any abnormalities to MD, Clinical Research Manager, or health care team member
  • Executes study-related administrative tasks, such as collection of regulatory documents, ethics submissions, etc.
  • Conducts telephone and/or clinical recruitment interviews to collect data using established criteria
  • Assists in coordinating patient visit schedule as per study protocol
  • Executes various aspects of study visit (e.g., assessment; adverse events; monitoring of safety; medication; questionnaires; sample collection, including venipuncture; processing and shipment of samples) according to clinical protocol
  • Reviews and assesses study-related literature
  • Enters data into secure database
  • Participates in team meetings to report on progress and identify potential problems
Qualifications
  • At minimum, a B.Sc. in Psychology or Health Sciences
  • At minimum 1 year clinical and/or professional experience
  • Clinical research experience preferred
  • Experience in depression or psychiatry research is an asset
  • Experience writing clinical trial protocols and submitting protocols to Health Canada and research ethics board
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational, problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt to changes in project direction
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and dependable with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize your workload and the flexibility to adjust to changing work plans, schedules and deadlines
  • Self-motivated team member with a demonstrated ability to show initiative
  • Ability to interact with a range of health professionals and support staff, through exchange of information, consulting, problem solving and training as required
