Position Summary

The Labourer is responsible for providing a safe, clean exterior environment, performing interior general maintenance, through AMMS, of the facility as required, and performing relocations of personnel, as authorized by the Director.


  • Performing a variety of duties in and around buildings and grounds of the hospital complex.
  • Assisting licensed journeymen in completing their tasks, as coordinated by immediate Supervisor.
  • Working on the grounds including: mowing and raking leaves, weeding gardens, and trimming shrubbery.
  • Walkway and sidewalk maintenance.
  • Identifying potential safety hazards around the property while performing duties
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and storing maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Prioritizing work orders assigned within the Facility
  • Working independently with departmental leads to coordinate relocation and decanting of services
  • Assist in internal construction renovation projects
  • Knowledgeable in the use of power and batteryoperated tools
  • Estimating material requirement and costs and preparing requisitions.
  • Completing work orders and the associated reporting documents.
  • Providing callback services as required by the hospital.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of grade 12 diploma required.
  • General mechanical aptitude is required
  • Demonstrated strong resourcefulness and excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated capability of learning routine, organized activities when doing minor repairs on machinery and/or facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under close supervision when working with skilled journeymen
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated emotional stability, maturity, selfconfidence, reliability, dependability, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accept supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to sustain pressure of work and flexibility in ordering/reordering priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and operational maintenance manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, organize, and complete work.
  • Demonstrated ability to extend courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated professional manner in work setting.
