Manager, Development Team Position Summary**Reporting to the Director of IT, the Manager, Development Team will be responsible for leading and coordinating a team of software developers to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality software solutions for the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). They will oversee all aspects of the development lifecycle, including planning, design, implementation, testing and deployment of software and IT services. They will provide mentorship, guidance, and support to team members to foster professional development and growth amongst their team. This is an entry level-manager role requiring leadership, excellent communication skills, and business skills to manage relationships between multiple stakeholders at an operational level.

The CBA delivers services in both of Canada's official languages. Fluent bilingual skills, both written and oral, are considered an asset.

Annual Salary
$87,000 to $95,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and support a small team within a timesensitive and demanding environment, including career development plans for direct reports and problem resolution.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and goals for the development team, foster a collaborative and innovative environment in the delivery of software and IT services.
  • Manage professional development, training, and performance management plans for direct reports.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and integration of software development efforts.
  • Plan, prioritize, manage, and mitigate risk for multiple development projects while ensuring timely delivery of projects on budget and on time.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to team members, lead problemsolving and decision making processes for software development.
  • Review code, architecture, and design documents to ensure adherence to best practices, coding standards, and quality guidelines.
  • Provide updates to IT Department on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Develop and monitor departmental best practices, provide metrics and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Ten or more years of experience in software and IT development.
  • Three or more years of experience working in a Nonprofit Organization.
  • Experience coordinating crossfunctionally with a group of managers.
  • Experience in cloud computing (ie. AWS, Azure), software development methodologies, and DevOps practice is considered an asset.
  • Experience managing a team of 3 to 6 personnel is an asset.
  • Experience leading development teams is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills and experience with a track record in leading small teams.
  • Strong ability to contribute to operational processes and implement strategy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong software development technology and framework skills (i.e. Java, Python,.NET, React)
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to lead by example as a strong handson contributor.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and assess risk.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex software projects concurrently while being accountable to several different internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct employees in the completion of assignments.
  • Ability to lead training sessions for internal stakeholders.
  • Availability to work overtime and travel as circumstances warrant.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Selfmotivated with an ability to work at all professional levels with mínimal supervision.
