***Reporting to the President, the Financial Controller is responsible for managing and maintaining the financial health of the organization by developing sound strategies and financial plans that support business objectives and aim to maintain positive revenue and financial growth. The job incumbent must effectively manage the workflow and performance of accounting staff to ensure regulatory compliance with applicable standards.


Specifically, the Financial Controller will effectively oversee and streamline finance and accounting operations; provide financial analysis and reporting; publish financial statements; implement, monitor and evaluate internal controls and ensure the accuracy of all financial information.

Key to this role is proactively coordinating with both internal and external stakeholders (i.e. department managers, customer service, vendors, etc.) to efficiently communicate financial data that's required for making informed financial decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Planning & Coordination_
  • Develop sound strategies and comprehensive financial plans that support business objectives and aim to maintain positive revenue and financial growth
  • Prepare and manage organizational budget(s) in collaboration with senior management; monitor expenses, approve invoices, review departmental requirements and report variances as needed.
  • Coordinate with the offsite accountant to oversee quarterly and yearly filing and reporting activities
  • Accounting & Finance Management_
  • Effectively oversee all accounting operations including payroll, billing, accounts payable and receivable, general ledgers, cost accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Direct the scheduling and workflow of the finance/accounting department and effectively manage employee performance.
  • Coordinate the preparation and provision of regulatory reporting.
  • Manage all financial data required to ensure accurate accounting of business activities and transactions.
  • When required, handle escalated customer complaints and/or issues in a timely manner and ensure customer satisfaction is ultimately achieved.
  • Financial Forecasting & Reporting_
  • Thoroughly analyze financial data
  • Create accurate and realistic financial forecasts (i.e. projected expenditures, revenues)
  • Prepare and publish internal and external financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Formulate, implement and monitor business performance metrics.
  • Reconcile bank statements and prepare required tax and liability returns, when necessary.
  • Financial Controls & Risk Management_
  • Consistently ensure all applicable finance and accounting standards, principals and legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.
  • In coordination with senior management, conduct risk analysis by thoroughly assessing credit, liquidity, price risk and interest data/metrics.
  • Maintain, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of financial systems and controls to ensure that all gaps, inconsistencies or concerns are proactively addressed, and internal controls are strengthened.
Assist with audits of internal processes

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five to ten years' experience working in Finance Management and/or Managerial Accounting, required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Commerce, Business, Accounting or a related field, required.
  • Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) or Certified Management Accountants (CMA) designation, an asset.
  • Master's, or other Graduate Degree in Finance, Accounting or similar field, an asset
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and best practices.

  • Competent in utilizing various management, payroll and accounting software (i.e. ERP system, Quikbooks, ADP Workforce Now, etc.)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to have foresight, analytically problemsolve, and make decisions using sound judgement.
  • Capacity to understand the consequence of errors with regard to financial mismanagement.
