MacEwan University is seeking a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (Exercise Specialist II) for a part-time (0.6 FTE) continuing opportunity with our Griffins Athletics department.

Reporting to the Director of Griffins Athletics, you will work closely with the Head Coaches and Athletic Therapy team to create, develop, and monitor the strength and conditioning programming for student athletes within MacEwan Athletics based on the specific needs of each team, with the primary objective to improve team performance and reduce injuries.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive fitness and health assessments of each individual athlete to determine base level of fitness and areas of focus;
  • Consulting with coaches to learn about program goals and needs, and building programming to support those goals;
  • Designing, developing, and implementing quality evidencebased strength and conditioning programs for all varsity teams and customizing training based on injury history, mobility limitations, movement ability, individual goals, and positional differences;
  • Scheduling and delivering programming to varsity athletes in the highperformance training center, to provide education on proper techniques and recovery strategies;
  • Maintaining effective communication with all varsity coaches around training schedules, team and individual physical needs and sport specific training;
  • Continuously assessing athlete progress and providing constructive feedback to individual athletes on their progress within the program;
  • Providing regular updates and feedback to all varsity coaches on how team members are performing in the program, adjusting as required to support needs of the team;
  • Collaborating with Athletic Therapists to remain informed about athlete injuries and creating individualized rehabilitation and strengthbuilding programs to support the athlete through recovery;
  • Creating a logbook/monitoring system and related communications that are easily accessible by studentathletes, coaches, and Athletic Therapists, which are used to inform programming;
  • Building and maintaining a programming manual for both coaches and athletes, which includes progressions, and photos and videos of exercises and positioning;
  • Assisting in the scheduling, assessment choice and delivery of pre
- and post-season fitness testing for each varsity team, and collecting and analyzing data throughout the process to develop informative reports for the athletes and coaches; and

  • Developing recommendations for offseason fitness programming, tailored to each sport with a goal of maintaining fitness levels and mitigating repetitive injuries.

  • A minimum of a 2year diploma in Personal Training, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Health Promotion, Exercise Science, or another related field.
  • A valid CSEP-CPT (or equivalent) designation.
