DBHC Operations Coordinator and Housing Manager

General Description:


Diamond Bailey Healing Centre and The MNFC Housing Program are looking for
one (1) Indigenous Housing Property Manager will oversee the repair and upkeep of all residential properties of the Housing Program under the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre.

In this role you will be responsible for developing efficient organization systems, managing tenancy relationships, ensuring effective documentation practices, and monitoring the NS tenancies act and following appropriate compliance and response procedures related to tenancy concerns.


Key Accountabilities:

_knowledge and understanding of the philosophies, principles and practices of property management, particularly within the social housing sector

_knowledge of current social issues facing the Urban Indigenous Community such as homelessness, mental health and addictions, intimate partner violence, child protection, elder support, etc

_Considerable knowledge of building structures and systems and an ability to recognize deficiencies and prepare summaries of required work

_Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills

_Ability to plan and coordinate the delivery of a broad range of property management and tenant support services and make decisions based on an analysis of a range of issues and problems

_Ability to summarize and explain complex program information and funding requirements

_General administrative duties, such as; Keeping contact information for all contractors, keeping records of maintenance requests and work completed, maintaining budgets and all finance records pertaining to the properties

  • Maintain the use of supplies, equipment and order new supplies as needed.
  • Ensure confidentially of all records and files, unless release of specific information is authorized by the Diamond Bailey Manager.
  • Ensure that policies and protocols are being followed and upheld.
  • The Property Manager will use their discretion to handle any unforeseen problems that arise in the absence of coordinators and management. Any decisions made will need to be properly communicated to the Coordinators upon their return.
  • Possess the ability to maintain general upkeep of maintenance systems;clean out dryer vents, HVAC, landscaping, and light maintenance duties.
  • Monitor all maintenance requests submitted by Indigenous Client Liaison's and respond accordingly.
  • Maintain and record all finances appropriately.
  • May perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

_2-3 years of experience working within property management sector considered an asset_

_Experience working with Indigenous communities and comprehensive cultural knowledge considered an asset

_Previous administrative and/or business management experience considered an asset

_Experience in customer service and/or strong communication skills considered an asset

_Demonstrated skills in guiding individuals, and the utilization of new practices in working with clients based on models of practice and Indigenous culture

_Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a part of an interprofessional team

_Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative

_Demonstrated ability to represent and respect the interest of clients

_Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint)

_Successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check), proof of Level C First Aid & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification as a condition of employment. Training may be offered
