What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the environmental component of transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance projects, and ensure compliance/conformance with environmental legislation, policies and procedures
  • Provide technical advice regarding the environmental assessment process and other environmental issues related to transportation, including spills/contaminated site assessment and remediation
  • Provide input to, and environmental technical support for, strategic highway planning and regional planning initiatives
  • Coordinate procurement processes to hire and oversee the work of consultants to support a variety of ministry led projects
  • Participate in public information sessions and meetings with stakeholders and Indigenous communities/organizations, including those involving contentious issues
  • Design and undertake field studies and monitoring programs related to various environmental issues associated with transportation

How do I qualify?:

Environmental and Technical Knowledge:

You have:

  • Knowledge of the environmental considerations associated with transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies
  • Knowledge of principles and practices for environmental assessment and protection
  • Knowledge of principles and practices for contaminated site assessment and remediation

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

You have:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills when providing advice, recommendations and/or training on complex and sensitive issues
  • Presentation skills and the ability to communicate complicated information in a way that is appropriate for the audience, such as other teams within the ministry or stakeholder groups
  • Proven diplomacy, tact and good judgment

Analytical and Organizational Skills:

You have:

  • Strong research, analytical and problem
- solving skills to provide advice regarding environmental impacts/mitigation related to transportation projects

  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and project management skills
  • The ability to complete complex assignments with mínimal supervision and meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
