Job Summary

What is the opportunity?


You will be responsible for requesting risk approval and managing credit and transactional risk limits for various groups of fund relationships including regulated mutual funds, pension funds, trusts, endowments and managed accounts.

You will manage relationships with RBC Investor Services (RBC IS) sales and trading professionals and counterparties to ensure client trading and overdraft needs are met on a timely basis including addressing credit requirements as necessary.


The role supports the development of transaction solutions (including structuring, amount and term) and provides assistance in the preparation of transaction requests, while safeguarding the credit quality of the trading and overdraft credit portfolio, ensuring all limit systems are properly recording all approvals and help in the preparation of timely management information reports as required.

The role also includes performing the risk assessment and continuous risk monitoring for the RBC IS asset managers, including mutual fund, pensions, and managed accounts.


What will you do?

  • Timely preparation of transaction requests in support of RBC IS credit intensive trading activities with global asset managers on behalf of the funds they manage. Alongside this, prepare transaction requests in support of RBC IS nontrading products such as overdrafts. Maintain accurate limit data within Client Credit Management Services (CCMS)
  • Manage the complete client setup process for trading and overdrafts covering risk, regulatory, legal, compliance and operational matters including performing the risk assessment. Understand and assist in negotiating supporting trading documentation (e.g. ISDA), daily review of unauthorized overdrafts and preparation of overdraft reports
  • Build and maintain relationships with your own set of clients as well as RBC IS stakeholders. Initiate and maintain contact with trading professionals, Group Risk Management
  • Credit, Market Risk, Trading Documentation and RBC IS Law Group
  • Manage your own workload and juggle competing priorities to deliver RBC's products to the client according to business and client demands
  • Understand and assess client investment strategies from a risk perspective
  • Review and risk rate investment managers and counterparties (including regulated mutual funds, pension funds, trusts, endowments and managed accounts). Participate in due diligence meetings / calls
  • Compliance reporting including: limit excesses (overdraft and FX), ATE triggers, and NAV monitoring
  • Complete assigned projects and other duties in an efficient and effective manner that support business initiatives

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Credit and risk background ideally focused on the fund management industry
  • Familiarity and basic understanding of trading products including FX, swaps and securities finance, and nontrading products such as overdrafts
  • Understanding of trading documentation
  • Advanced data and computer management skills including proficiency with Excel
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage tasks with accompanying attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret, explain and communicate opinions and recommendations using strong verbal and written skills
  • Minimum: Honors B.A. or B. Comm or equivalent
