About Us:
The Ukrainian Museum of Canada, in Saskatoon, SK, is a dynamic cultural heritage museum, archives, and community space operating in a period of creative regrowth. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented individual to join our team this summer as a Curatorial Assistant, working under the direction of our Registrar and Collections Officer. This is an excellent learning opportunity for emerging museum professionals with an interest Ukrainian cultural heritage.

Job Description:
Join our team this summer as a Curatorial Assistant and contribute to the preservation and showcasing of Ukrainian cultural heritage. Under the guidance of our Registrar and curatorial staff, you will assist in various aspects of collections management, exhibition preparation, and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Collections Audit: Collaborate with the Registrar to conduct a comprehensive audit of our collection, ensuring accuracy and adherence to museum standards.
  • Artefact and Artwork Preparation: Handle, clean, and prepare artefacts and artworks for display with meticulous care.
  • Curatorial Research: Conduct research on artefacts, artworks, and exhibition themes to inform content development and contextual understanding.
  • Cataloguing: Assist in cataloguing newly acquired items into our collection database, maintaining detailed and accurate records.
  • Exhibition Didactics: Contribute to writing and developing exhibition didactics and interpretive materials to engage and educate our diverse audience.
  • Exhibition Installation: Participate in the planning and execution of exhibition installations, ensuring a visually compelling and cohesive presentation.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain thorough documentation of artefact handling, condition reports, and installation processes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the registrar, curators, and other museum staff to coordinate curatorial activities effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience in a museum or gallery setting is preferred but not required.

Youth Eligibility:

• Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status.

• Between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.

• Have a valid SIN number that does not start with the number '9'. International youth are not eligible participants.

• Cannot be an immediate family member of the employer, officer, board member or director.

Hours: 35 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday with flexibility required for exhibition installations.

Compensation: $18/hour
