Job Summary


Reporting to the Supervisor of Cash Control, the Cash Management Coordinator plays an important role within the Finance department, responsible for supporting the daily cash management activities, which includes supporting the Supervisor with day-to-day direction of staff and ensuring that all funds received by the corporation are accurately counted, recorded and deposited in a timely manner and in compliance with applicable policies.

The Cash Management Coordinator is responsible for the analysis and reconciliation (monthly and annual) of financial records, including bank statements and financial data stored in our financial management systems.

The Cash Management Coordinator will also be responsible for providing excellent client support to internal and external clients regarding cash management matters.


Job Tasks

  • Supporting the daily cash management activities for the Finance department in compliance with Corporate Cash Handling Policy and Payment Acceptance Policy
  • Monitoring the posting of payments to the accounts receivable sub ledger and approving batches on a scheduled basis to ensure Financial Reports are accurate
  • Facilitating the transfer of bank payments to Markham's Tax system on a daily basis and assisting with the preparation and documentation for Wire Payments
  • Analyzing and reconciling financial records, including bank statements, Month

  • Year reconciliation and the reconciliation of financial records stored in Amanda and Cayenta
  • Liaising with internal and external clients to resolve inquiries regarding payments, such as but not limited to, misapplied payments, and payments in suspense
  • Participating in the review and implementation of procedures and systems to enhance cash control
  • Supporting the daytoday direction and providing guidance and assistance to cashiers, while ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payments (cheque, credit card, online)
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to respond to inquiries, including City departments, banks, credit card merchant services
  • Providing support for special projects and other administrative duties as required

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Education in a related field
  • Completed Accounting Courses equivalent to CGA Level 4 and working towards a CPA designation is preferred
  • Municipal Accounting and Finance Program
  • AMCTO designation is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a municipal government environment
  • Expert knowledge and technical skills working with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using financial management systems
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail required for analysis of financial records
  • Strong client service skills to interact with internal and external
  • Excellent time management and an ability to work in a fast paced work environment, with multiple competing projects/tasks
