About this opportunity:

As a key member of the Cenovus Lloydminster Downstream Finance Team, the incumbent will primarily work with the Upgrader Team Lead and Financial Analysts. This individual will complete all financial tasks relating to the Lloydminster Upgrader including full profit and loss statement, balance sheet accounts, budget and long-range planning, forecasts, and analyses in accordance with IFRS guidelines. This individual will be a strong business partner that will support the asset's leadership team to make sound business decisions.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for accounting activities (journal postings, account reconciliations etc.), and financial reporting (profit & loss statement, including important metrics) & analysis.
  • Interpret results of business unit reporting and develop qualitative explanations for discussion.
  • Coordinate and provide support in the preparation and submission of annual budgets, long range plans (LRP) and monthly forecasts including full financial statement/profit & loss.
  • Support the business unit in supervising planned and unplanned costs with variance analysis while stewarding to budget.
  • Liaise with business operations to analyze and provide commentary on variances highlighted in standard management reports.
  • Complete Manufacturing margin and variance analysis and reporting (month-ends, monthly forecasts, annual Budget and Long-Range Plans).
  • Works closely with Manufacturing, Commercial and VCOP teams to understand business decisions impacting operations/results.
  • Spotfire/Power BI Reporting Superuser (developer of reports), consolidation and validation of full P&L and PMR reporting.
  • BPC entry of margin and coordinates BPC entry for sites.
  • Sox Coordinator for site.
  • Plant outage cost control (alongside Analysts).
  • Compiles the detailed forecast and budget/LRP alongside team lead and Downstream Canadian Manufacturing Coordinator with support from financial analysts.
  • Provide assurance that business unit financial documents align with business activities and are in alignment with accounting policies (IFRS & Sarbanes Oxley).
  • Provide analysis to support Management Discussion and Analysis and press release information.
  • identify and handle operational risk within the scope of Downstream accounting.
  • Identify and implement best business practices and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests and participate in ad hoc projects as required.
  • Support Finance Team by providing coverage during absences through cross-training of other accounting and financial tasks.
  • Work with Team Lead to identify impact of corporate initiatives on business unit finance.
  • Support plans of action, acquisitions, and new initiatives.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor Degree with a specialization in Accounting/Finance.
  • Certified Professional Accounting designation (CMA, CA, CGA, CPA) would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 6 years of business/financial analysis experience.
  • Strong financial competence.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, with an ability to work independently, multi-task in a changing environment and complete tasks on schedule.
