Community Corrections Division of the Corrections Branch delivers programs and services to adult offenders or alleged offenders awaiting trial or sentencing, who are serving community-based sentences of the court, or conditional release from custody.

The intent of these programs and services is to enhance public safety by assessing and managing the risk of the offender and providing intervention to change behaviour.

The Probation Officer functions relatively independently and is an 'officer' of the court.

The Probation Officer may be one of several probation officers working as a team in an office, or working as part of a team from a remote location.

The Probation Officer reports to the Local Manager who reports to the Regional Director, who is operationally responsible for several community corrections offices.


This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Probation Officer who is looking to be a part of a diverse team.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 years; 120 credits) from a recognized Canadian Institution; PLUS
  • No recent jobspecific experience = Growth Series Level One
  • 612 months recent jobspecific experience = Growth Series Level Two
  • 12 months recent jobspecific experience = SPO 24 Full Working Level
- **Recent experience refers to experience obtained in the preceding five years: experience must be gained after completing the education required (not before or during).
- **If you have a degree from outside of Canada or if your degree was taken in a language other than English, please refer to the additional requirements in the job profile.

  • Successful completion of the Adult Probation Officer prerequisite course (CORR1000).
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license. A valid Class 7 may be considered. Computer and keyboard skills (minimum 30 wpm).

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Case management experience working with clients with Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse issues. Experience working with clients involved with the Criminal Justice System.
