Position Summary

Under the direction of the Specialized Learning Supports SLP Consultants, the full-time, temporary Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) will contribute to the delivery of speech-language services in school classrooms.

The SLPA will provide intervention and support activities to individuals and small groups of students identified with moderate to severe communication delays.


Job Duties/Responsibilities
- assisting students who have moderate to severe communication delays
- implementing speech-language interventions under the direction and supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist
- collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to provide a coordinated service delivery
- modeling speech and language facilitation strategies
- modeling strategies to facilitate learning in the class
- completing hearing screenings with children, as directed by the Speech Language Pathologist
- selecting, preparing and presenting materials to students consistent with the plans delegated by the Speech Language Pathologist

Education/Qualifications
- a recognized diploma as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant
- ability to establish effective relationships and build trust and rapport with students
- excellent interpersonal skills combined with tact and diplomacy skills
- good organizational, time management and pacing skills to support student scheduling
- flexible, adaptable and have the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment

  • NVCI, First Aid

Rate of Pay
$21.96 per hour plus $194.11 bi-weekly advance on expenses.
After twenty-five (25) cumulative working days, the employee is granted temporary bi-weekly status. The hourly rate increases to $26.50 per hour and the employee is eligible for group benefit plans.

This hourly rate of pay reflects a market adjustment granted to Speech Language Pathology Assistants who are required to have a diploma in Speech Language Pathology.

This market adjustment and will be reviewed annually in the Fall to determine if it should be maintained, amended or eliminated.


Nature of Work
- this position requires access to a vehicle as travel between sites is required; a bi-weekly advance on expenses is provided
