St., Edmonton, AB (travel within Edmonton and surrounding area required).

Job Type:
Temporary, Full-time (35 hours per week) between November 27, 2023, and may end on or before June 27, 2024.

  • Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary classroom team to provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy in an inclusive manner that targets the SLP's goals in an IPP.
  • Model and implement communication strategies throughout daily routines at preschool/daycare/home.
  • Document and provide children's progress to team members.
  • Provide timely written summary of services provided.
  • Create, organize and maintain materials for programming.
  • Assist the SLP and Coordinating Teacher with various tasks e.g., file set up, create materials, administer probes etc.
  • Meet regularly with the SLP to discuss strategies and progress.
  • Participate in various endeavors in support of the agency and our community.
  • Must have capacity to work remotely and willing to work online sessions (if not on site) to support the children's learning goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Attributes and Other Requirements:

  • Diploma as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant. (Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.)
  • Speech Language Pathology experience with preschool age (35 years) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Board Maker and using Augmentative/Alternative Communication methods (communication boards, TouchChat, basic ASL, etc.) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with pediatric motor speech disorders (apraxia, dysarthria, speech motor delay) is an asset.
  • The ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, while engaging and motivating preschoolers with both in person and virtual programming.
  • Champion of inclusive philosophy and must respect values of diversity and inclusivity in all its forms.
  • Being adaptable, flexible, reliable, and possessing effective time management skills.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, with an ability to work well under mínimal supervision.
  • Comfortable with frequent kneeling and squatting for much of a shift, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment, for home visit, community partner site, and program health and safety needs.
  • Current Child Intervention and Police Record Check with vulnerable sector check (dated within 6 months or more recent to hire date).
  • Travel within the Capital Region is required for this position.
  • Have a reliable vehicle for site visits, valid driver's license, and vehicle insurance. (Travel from site to site is reimbursed).
  • Have current certification in Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR or Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • In addition to weekdays, there may be occasional evening or weekend shifts for Community Options fundraising events, professional development or staff meetings.
  • During office work, there may be periods of prolonged sitting and exposure to a computer screen and performing repetitive movements.
