The primary duties of the Section lead for Transportation Hydraulics includes focus areas around people/staff management, project assignments, recruitment, retention and management processes and procedures for the Section.

The direct reports for this position will include professionals aligned with the Section. This Section Lead will report to the Department Lead for Transportation Design & Delivery. The role supports the growth and success of all market sectors within the Transportation industry.


In this role you will provide technical expertise on a variety of transportation planning and design projects including development of alternatives, Class Environmental Assessments, functional planning and detail design as it relates to drainage and storm water management.

In addition, you will provide technical expertise and project management for master plans and stormwater management plans supporting higher-level planning studies, including Subwatershed Studies and similar studies to support land use planning.

Furthermore, you will demonstrate a thorough understanding of project management, design standards and preparing contracts that meet both scope and client expectations.


Finally, you will be engaged in business development activities including client liaison, development and support of client management plans, proposal preparation and delivering high quality work.


Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Section lead for Transportation Hydraulics we'll count on you to perform the following responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Section staff in cooperation with Department, project and business leaders for efforts that include Transportation Hydraulics expertise
  • Manage project staffing and workload balancing including forecasting and strategic planning
  • Coordinate, train and mentor the technical and social competencies of Section staff to meet client, project needs and market drivers
  • Manage hiring, performance evaluation, training and recognition of all Section staff, including obtaining input from project managers and additional project leadership
  • Identify and manage recruitment effort to fill needs and gaps requested from the Section. Work closely with Department Leads to best coordinate need and effort
  • Provide project management and senior technical leadership for multidisciplinary projects under your supervision
  • Establish, implement, and routinely update section procedures and processes to perform day to day project work while adhering to company policies and project contractual terms
  • Take responsibility for operations of production including profitability, morale, retention and quality control
  • Work cooperatively to inform corporate leadership teams about staffing needs and additional skill training needs
  • Function as Project Manager/Quality Manager and take responsibility for production on projects
  • Implement and participate in quality assurance of project quality control procedures, represent the Quality Program and convey corporate quality goals, participate in risk management reviews, business reviews and disputes resolution activities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years management experience
  • Professional license, P.Eng designation
  • Bachelor's degree in a professional, architecture, engineering or closely related field
  • Strengths in effective communication, listening, leadership and organization
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
