Located in the Vice-President Research portfolio, the Hunter Hub contributes directly to the University of Calgary's strategic vision to be the most entrepreneurial university in Canada.


Reporting to the Executive Director of the Hunter Hub and working collaboratively with organizations internal and external to the university, the Facilities and Community Manager is accountable for the space operations management of the Hunter Hub including event management of the Collision Space and membership management of the Innovation Sandbox and associated amenities.

The Facilities and Community Manager supports the Hunter Hub's strategy to build the innovation community across campus and activate the Hunter Hub's new permanent home in the Hunter Student Commons to its greatest potential.


The Facilities and Community Manager will build operational policies, procedures, membership and partnership agreements, community programs and initiatives at the Hunter Hub to ensure their successful implementation in the Hunter Hub and continually make improvements where needed.

This position is accountable for the performance and results of a team of direct reports, and is responsible for all recruitment, development, and performance management of the facilities team.

As a key public-facing ambassador for the Hunter Hub, the incumbent will be an expert in the innovation community at UCalgary, and integral to developing both internal and external relationships in support of the Hunter Hub and the University''s overall entrepreneurial thinking and innovation initiatives.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the smooth operations and friendly and innovative aesthetic and culture of the Hunter Hub space; Identifies, recommends, and helps to implement development of and/or changes to space and event processes and practices to ensure smooth, efficient, and effective operations.
  • Managing space bookings from, and communications with, university and external partners and ensuring that all space booking clients are wellsupported.
  • Responsible for general office management and space duties, including maintaining a calendar of key internal and external event bookings; ordering and maintaining office equipment and event supplies; tracking inventories; working with the University's Facilities teams as needed; and providing other space assistance to the team when required.
  • Responsible for supporting the Hunter Hub programming teams for their events in the space including room setup, catering, IT and AV (including Zoom backend), and other operational requirements are met at events.
  • Sourcing and working with vendors to provide services to Hunter Hub events as needed.
  • Responsible for recruitment, performance management and supervision of a small frontfacing facilities team; Manage the quality and delivery of the facilities team members' duties.
  • Identify opportunities to be a brand ambassador and lead the facilities team by example by building strong relationships with internal and external networks; Communicate professionally with faculty, staff, administrators across the academic community, and students; respond to requests for information (and take necessary and appropriate action including triaging to appropriate team members).
  • Support the marketing and promotional efforts for the Hunter Hub through front line engagement with students, faculty, staff, University leadership and community stakeholders in a personable and professional manner.
  • Manage the Innovation Sandbox membership process and community; Organize a calendar of events to support and engage Innovation Sandbox members.
  • Responsible for budget forecasting, purchasing, tracking and reporting for facilities.
  • Ensure that financial transactions (requisitions and credit card expenses) related to facilities are processed within PeopleSoft in a timely and accurate manner; Process, follow up on, and ensure payment of all requisitions for the Hunter Hub.
  • Manage the Hunter Hub's vendor procurement process related to facilities: identify and qualify vendors with project lead, create contracts for procurement, and ensure smooth delivery of all agreed deliverables and activities.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must hold an undergraduate degree, preferably in business.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience, knowledge and skills in operations (facilities/space management), events, and associated financial management. Demonstrated experience managing budge
