The Role:

Community and Recreation Facilitator (8- week full-time contract)**Trellis Society seeks Community and Recreation Support Facilitators to aid our Housing and Shelter Programs.

Community and Recreation Facilitators help design, plan and implement recreation plans for the clients in our 24/7 Programs. The position involves supporting 24-hour Harm Reduction and Housing First programs for youth and adults.

  • This Position requires a 40hour work week with the flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends._
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen OR permanent resident.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate activities within the program and in the community that promote engagement and meet the developmental, social and emotional needs of the youth in the program.
  • Develop and oversee inhouse recreation and meal planning calendars in accordance to program policy, procedure and standards.
  • Follow program expectations and adhere to industry standards and best practices including working from a traumainformed care, grief and loss, and attachment lens.
  • Make intentional efforts towards creating a stable and consistent homelike environment (i.e. modelling meal preparation or general housework).
  • Managing crisis situations effectively using problem solving and deescalation skills.
  • Model respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with youth and staff team.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff teams, reporting to the Program Supervisor and Program Manager.
  • Daily documentation and formal report writing as required.
  • Additional tasks as they are assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Expectations

  • A degree or diploma in Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc.) or currently enrolled. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with computer literacy
  • Strong relationship building skills and a good understanding of working with vulnerable youth with challenging behaviors.
  • Organized, selfmotivated, and able to work with a team and independently.
  • Commitment to continual professional and personal development.
  • Valid driver's license, current Driver's Abstract, and reliable vehicle with $2 million liability insurance.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (_a requirement prior to commencement_).

Reporting Relationship:

This position directly reports to a Trellis Program Manager of the 24/7
