The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Education and Health at Laurentian University invites

applications from suitably qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant

Professor in Social Work. The preferred start date is August 1, 2024.

Preferred candidates will have a completed doctorate in social work, or in a related discipline, with at least

one social work undergraduate degree. Candidates who are currently finishing their doctoral degree and

have solid work-related experience will be considered. Successful candidates will have a record of

scholarly and research activity, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and communities, and

will be expected to make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader

community. An on campus presence in Sudbury is expected.

The successful candidates will have the following essential qualifications:


• Show evidence of scholarly and teaching expertise in some of the following areas: direct practice;social work knowledge, theory, and ethics; gerontology; substance use; practice with Francophone and newcomer populations; people with disabilities; anti-racism/anti-oppressive practice;Indigenous social work research and practice; and social work practice with 2SLGBTQ+ communities.


• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (campus and/or online) in English;


• Experience mentoring and supporting graduate students and the ability to undertake thesis supervision;


• Experience working collaboratively in a team environment and enthusiasm for contributing to the governance of the school and University as a whole;


• Clear commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University's bilingual and tricultural mandates;


• An ability and willingness to engage in dismantling racism and other oppressive practices that lead to social and health inequities.

• A teaching portfolio (should include teaching philosophy, a summary of teaching experience,

teaching evaluations, a statement of teaching interests).


• A statement of current and prospective research interests.


• The names and contact information for three academic references.
