Laurentian University, located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario, serves

Laurentian's beautiful, forested campus is surrounded by fresh-water lakes, conservation lands and
hundreds of kilometres of cross-country and hiking trails. Your commute can be life-changing: you
might cycle, ski, snowshoe or kayak to work, and you can take a lunch break at Laurentian's private
beach. The university is situated in the geographic centre of Greater Sudbury, northern Ontario's
major urban centre (population 160,000). Laurentian University has close and productive ties to
Science North, SNOLAB, Health Sciences North and multiple post
- secondary institutions.
The School of Indigenous Relations offers two programs - the Honours Bachelor of Indigenous Social
Work (HBISW) program and the Master of Indigenous Relations (MIR) program. The HBISW is
accredited through the Canadian Association for Social Work Educators (CASWE) and is unique in
that Indigenous and social work values and theories are deeply integrated into the curriculum. Both
the BISW and MIR program promote Indigenous culture and worldviews as an important body of
knowledge.
Social Work Program as well as in the Master of Indigenous Relation program in one of the following
areas:
Indigenous social welfare, Indigenous research methodologies, Indigenous social work
practice, and culture specific helping. They will have a record of scholarly and research activity, the
ability to work collaboratively
with colleagues and Indigenous communities, and will be expected to make contributions through
service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community. An on-campus presence is
expected.
Essential Qualifications
- Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) to Turtle Island with ties to their community.
- Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous Worldviews and Frameworks
- Understanding of Indigenous (to Turtle Island) culture and traditions and its importance
- PhD in Social Work or related field; suitably qualified applicants nearing completion of their
- MSWlevel experience in relevant Social Work practice
- Eligible for registration in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Recent teaching experience at the postsecondary level, preferably at a university
- Participation in research and scholarship
