Position


This position is part of the Learning Assessment Centre (LAC) team that strives to create a secure digital testing environment that is comfortable and friendly for students as well as efficient and convenient for Faculty.

The LAC is a digital test centre that offers a multitude of exam types:

different testing procedures and platforms, external, drop-in and high stakes exams, and U of A midterm and final exams.


The LAC Lead Proctor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of students writing digital assessments and ensuring the secure administration of exams.

Additionally, this position provides day-to-day administrative support for all student and faculty inquiries, by assisting with the scheduling of all exam clients that are hosted at the LAC.

The Lead Proctor has the responsibility of delivering a majority of the proctoring duties in the test centre.

They play the lead role in the LAC, working alongside other part-time proctors to set up, invigilate, and monitor the exam lab by enforcing time limits and compliance with other examination procedures.

This position ensures that all exams are administered fairly and according to established guidelines, as well as troubleshooting any issues that arise during the testing process.

As part of their responsibilities, the Lead Proctor facilitates newly hired part-time staff in their development and guides them through their initial shifts at the LAC.


The LAC Lead Proctor works in a challenging and demanding environment, where examinations are a high priority with mínimal room for error.

This position needs to demonstrate independence to integrate knowledge and experience in the daily performance of duties.

Duties
Exam Coordination and Administration

  • Liaise with both U of A and external institutions regarding the exam setup, policies, software requirements, incident reports, and examination results
  • Monitor the capacity management system to ensure exams are being properly allocated and managed
  • Provide technical support to students, both on and off campus, in areas related to the use of LMS and administration systems
  • Organize and update exam training and exam day documentation
Examination Proctoring

  • Trains and supports newly hired parttime staff
  • Sets up preexamination preparation and ensures compliance with examining body's test regulations
  • Ensure the integrity of highstakes examinations by establishing and managing security measures in the LAC
  • Resolve any exam issues promptly and effectively as they surface, utilizing problemsolving and troubleshooting skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Combination of education and experience working in a testing centre or an academic setting
  • Understanding of FOIPP and Human Rights legislation as it relates to interaction with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff
  • Excellent liaison skills and the ability to conduct consultations with students, faculty, and staff
  • Adaptable, agile and technologically savvy; advanced capacity with MS Office suite, Google Applications and enterprise Learning Management Systems
  • Proven dedication to superior customer service with a strong commitment to student services
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a proven record of attending to important details
