Responsibilities

Preparation for classes or workshops on writing skills. Preparation of written or audio-visual materials;
revising and maintaining course-related material. Development of activities/approaches/workshops
focused on teaching writing to first-year undergraduate students.
- Serving as a writing skills tutor; leading discussions, workshops, activities to support the development of
students' writing skills.
- Assessing students' writing skills. Enhancing and supporting writing skills through teaching/workshops
in or outside of class.
- Assisting students with their writing and assignments through office hours with individual students,
either electronically or in-person.
- Conferring and working collaboratively with the faculty member/course instructor to determine
activities suitable to the course and learning needs of the students.
- Attending workshops, training, and professional development activities run by the WSI coordinators.
Attending role preparation and development workshops available through the university as appropriate.
- Attending monthly WSI team meetings.
- Providing a written evaluation and assessment of the successes and challenges of the WSI program at
the end of each term.

Additional Skills:

Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively lead workshop discussions in an online
environment.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to
the WSI program context.

PLEASE NOTE: The delivery of the WSI program may be online, in-person or hybrid, and successful
applicants will be required to have access to the appropriate technology, i.e., computer with camera,
microphone, and internet.

Estimated Total Hours of Work*
30 hours (July/August)
50 to 160 hours (September-December)

*Actual hours may vary at offer time dependent on qualifications and determined rate of pay. Employees can
work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Employees shall not be
guaranteed work and when not on assignment they shall not receive any pay or payment in lieu of benefits.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
- Completed Masters or PhD degree or enrolled in a Masters or PhD Program. Greater preference will be
accorded to those with a completed Masters or PhD.
- Previous evaluation of performance as a Teaching Assistant with the Writing Skills Initiative program
and/or at the University (if applicable).
- Relevant experience with writing instruction geared towards undergraduate students.

Salary & Compensation

TA I and TA II - $36.39 per hour
Master - $47.06 per hour
PhD - $50.82 per hour
