MAAD-1005 Intro to Jewellery (0.5 Credit)
(_Spring_ _Semester:
May 14_th_, June 21_st_, 2024; Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:30 - 11:30 AM; In-Person)_

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Technical and conceptual possibilities of jewellery art and design are introduced. Precious and non-precious metal and other materials are explored using multiple techniques and processes through scaffolded projects. Parallels with acquiring technical skills, concepts and a visual vocabulary are developed for design and/or art-based works.

RESPONSIBLIITIES:

Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews, participation in Faculty and program meetings; including responsibility for health & safety & meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.


QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant should have a Bachelor's degree in design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience.

Outstanding communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to support and resource independent studio investigations, are essential to teaching at this level.

A demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of students and faculty underpin all academic positions at OCAD U.


  • A terminal degree in art, design, or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience.
  • Experience teaching at a postsecondary level is considered an asset, equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with teaching English Language Learners (ELL).
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Thorough experience with jewellery fabrication including:
  • Silver soldering
  • Piercing
  • Forming
  • Stone setting
  • Surface treatments
