Job Opportunity: Sessional Instructor of Materials and Methods

OCAD University is seeking a qualified Sessional Instructor to teach a course on Materials and Methods: Beadwork in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Course Description:

The course will explore the history of beads specific to the Haudenosaunee (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora) with an emphasis on cultural and social changes from the 15th century to today. Students will learn about the significance of wampum in First Nations ceremonies, diplomatic treaties, decoration, and storytelling. They will also explore the introduction of European glass beads as trade goods and the production of beaded souvenirs for tourist trade.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include course outline development, studio preparation, and delivery of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations, and final evaluations/reviews.
  • Responsibility for health and safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • A terminal degree in art, design, or a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty.
Terms of Employment:

Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $6, per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
