The Ministry is responsible for:

developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations.


Role:


The Project Coordinator will provide research/process expertise in the area of language proficiency frameworks, language evelopment and language assessments and will ensure the project objectives are met and the deliverables are achieved.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Support the sector's work related to French language education working closely with other areas of the department to ensure alignment to Alberta Education's teacher recruitment and retention strategy

  • Collaborate with staff to prepare for and facilitate working group sessions
  • Synthesize working group feedback
  • Ensure the project objectives are met and the deliverables are achieved
  • Develop reporting materials

2. Information and Communication Management

  • Provide expertise in the area of language proficiency frameworks, language development and language assessments
  • Establish and maintain relations with Government of Alberta staff and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders and Ministry staff to ensure coordination and integration of perspectives, priorities, and standards

3. Provide issues management to support project delivery

  • Organize and track project status, reporting requirements and important deadlines
  • Identify potential issues that may impact stakeholders and Official Languages funding in Alberta and assist in risk management
  • Provide consultation and support for issues identification and resolution

4. Develop action requests, briefing materials, correspondence and other tasks as assigned to ensure that division and Ministry executive representatives have appropriate input for decision making

  • Identify emergent issues and develop strategies to deal with the identified risks and issues
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues
  • Balance and reconcile differing and often competing interests in French language education
  • Comply with timelines for project reporting
  • Collect required information to report to ministry leaders and/or Canadian Heritage

Qualifications:

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

University graduation in a related field plus 6 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of
:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Required Experience:

  • Project management and working on projects.
  • Experience in facilitation and leading workshops or meetings.

The following are considered assets for the position:

  • Master's degree in Second Language Education, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of the research related to language proficiency frameworks, language development and language assessments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English
  • Proficiency in French and/or other languages an asset
  • Experience with school and school system operations
  • The ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities
  • Awareness of French language education issues and developments
  • Strong analysis, reasoning, judgment and problemsolving skills
  • An active listener with the ability to glean multiple perspectives and synthesize findings
  • A highly collaborative approach and the ability to navigate complex relationships
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
