Position Description:

SickKids' Research Institute is seeking 1 Summer Student to join our Research IT Department.


In this role, you will be immersed in a diverse IT environment that spans across a broad range of platforms, products, and services.

You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with project management, business analyses, and learn about important IT service management concepts.

You will work with seasoned technology professionals and will be mentored by one of our Senior Managers.


Working in a supportive agile environment, we will provide you with the training you need to be a successful contributor to our high performing team.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

  • Support the SickKids' HPC system and the HPC4Health project formed by more than 30,000 compute threads, high speed networking (multi-10 & 40 GigE), and multi-petabytes of high performance and archive storage.
  • Provide guidance and support in all aspects of highend computing research to a large community composed of researchers and clinicians from SickKids, and HPC4Health partners.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation.
  • Manage a variety of network and server hardware while interacting with vendors support teams.
  • Manage petabyte data stores and archives with leading edge data management tools, such as IRODS, Ceph and Dell/EMC PowerScale storage.
  • Attend inoffice meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Current registration as a student in a recognized college or university
  • Excellent attention to detail¿
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Cando attitude, resourceful, and demonstrates initiative
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS ).
  • Good understanding of common network protocols such as NFS, CIFS, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, TFTP, and NTP.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash and Python.

Employment Type:

Full-time, 1.0 FTE. 4 month contract position with the SickKids Family, working alongside the best & the brightest.
