Reporting to the Director, Benefits and Pension Policy, primary accountability for the Manager, Benefits Administration, is to oversee a team of professional staff, leading the efficient and solutions-focused administration of pension and employee group benefit plans.

The manager is accountable for program/administration gaps and opportunities, assessing challenges and trends, managing the development of proactive and innovative solutions to complex benefits and pension matters and leading specific priority initiatives through effective leadership and project management.


The Manager ensures strategic advice is delivered consistently, efficiently, and effectively to leadership on complex and sensitive benefits and pension issues.

This includes expert-level interpretation and advice on applicable legislation, regulations, policies, directives and guidelines, including implementation of new programs, policies and guidelines related to benefits and pension.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership and engagement, including daytoday direction, to benefits and pension administration staff.
  • Lead benefit and pension policy operationalization ensuring consistent interpretation of prescribed policies, procedures and guidelines in consultation with Human Resource business partners and line department managers.
  • Lead issues management to ensure daytoday issues (including employee exception requests or cases) are resolved according to prescribed policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Lead strategic communications and the development of effective and plain language communication tools to ensure benefit plans and pensions are easy to understand and meet the needs of a wide variety of audiences.
  • Lead the administration of the Life Insurance plans.
  • Lead pension administration, compliance, and senior executive pension reporting.
